More than 12 million people in the Horn of Africa are in need of life-saving assistance. While this emergency has made international headlines only in July, when famine was declared in parts of Somalia, country-based pooled funds in Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia already supported the humanitarian response to address the effects of the drought with US $69.2 million before July. Combined, the three Funds have allocated $98 million to this emergency in 2011 (as of 22 August 2011).
