Mexico, Guatemala – Earthquake
• Three people were killed in Mexico and two in Guatemala by the earthquake of 7 July. In Mexico, 9 000 houses and several roads were damaged in 15 municipalities.
In Guatemala, a state of calamity was declared in the affected areas, where approx. 25 000 people have been affected. Out of 1 459 evacuees, 114 remain in temporary shelters.

U.S.A. – Severe Weather
• Severe weather affected parts of eastern USA on 8-9 July. FEMA reports five unconfirmed fatalities, four of which in Smithfield (New York state) and one in Maryland.

Bulgaria – Severe Weather
• Heavy rains, strong winds and hail affected the capital Sofia on 8 July.
• As at 9 July, one person was reportedly killed and 40 injured. Many buildings and streets were flooded, while electricity and telecommunication networks were briefly affected in parts of the city. (National Authorities)
Papua New Guinea – Severe Weather
• Continuous heavy rain since June has caused flooding in parts of Gulf Province, washing away 37 houses and affecting over 27 000 people.
• Water sources have been polluted by chemicals from drilling areas and shelters and food are required for the people.

Paraguay – Floods
• Floods have affected 46 000 people as at 10 July, 15 000 of which remain displaced, mostly in the capital Asuncion. 26 temporary shelters are currently operational.
• Additional humanitarian assistance is required, while a number of communities are isolated due to the flood waters and humanitarian aid cannot reach them.

Somalia – Drought
• The last rainy season in Somalia was short and poor, resulting in water shortage in most of the country.
• The FSNAU has launched a warning to trigger a reaction to the urgent humanitarian needs.
• 350 000 people are living in deplorable conditions in Mogadishu; acute malnutrition rates and mortality levels have surpassed the emergency thresholds.

China – Severe Weather
• Heavy rainfall has caused floods and landslides in south China, including Xinjiang, Guangxi, Yunnan, and Guizhou provinces. 15 people have been reported dead, nine missing and 61 000 displaced, while over 5 000 houses have collapsed.

Japan – Tropical Cyclone
• NEOGURI made landfall on Kyushu in the evening of 9 July (UTC) as a Tropical Storm, affecting the island with heavy rain and strong winds. In the following hours it is forecast to cross eastern Honshu, weakening.
• As at 10 July, media report five people killed and 50 injured in the last three days, throughout the area affected by NEOGURI.
