PDC is responding to the recent M6.9 earthquake reported to have occurred 90KM WSW of Kirakira, Solomon Islands at 19:10 UTC on 09 December 2016. (U.S. Geological Survey) and Tsunami Threat. Attached is a PDC Situational Awareness Product depicting the reported epicenter and Tsunami Travel Times from the source to coastal locations. Please see below for additional information, as well as monitor DisasterAWARE for further updates.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) has issued a Tsunami Threat message stating

· “TSUNAMI WAVES REACHING 1 TO 3 METERS ABOVE THE TIDE LEVEL ARE POSSIBLE ALONG SOME COASTS OF SOLOMON ISLANDS”

· “TSUNAMI WAVES ARE FORECAST TO BE LESS THAN 0.3 METERS ABOVE THE TIDE LEVEL FOR THE COASTS OF AUSTRALIA... FIJI... KIRIBATI... NAURU... NEW CALEDONIA... PAPUA NEW GUINEA... TUVALU... AND VANUATU.”

The USGS has issued a Green alert for Earthquake ground shaking:

· “Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage.“
