CHF 148,635 has been allocated from the IFRC’s Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF) to support the Red Cross organisation in Kosovo in delivering immediate assistance to some 700 families (3,500 beneficiaries). Unearmarked funds to repay DREF are encouraged.
Summary: Due to strong winds that lasted for 24 hours in Kosovo followed by heavy snowfall that started late on January 6th and 7th, several municipalities in Kosovo have been affected by the natural disaster. The most affected municipalities are Istog, Kamenica and Peja. As a result of electricity blackout and broken communication lines, the flow of information was hampered.
This operation is expected to be implemented over three months, and will therefore be completed by 12 April 2012; a Final Report will be made available three months after the end of the operation (by 12 July 2012).
