Forming just east of the Philippines, tropical storm Kong-Rey (Nando) moved north along the coast of China and finally Japan. In the Philippines, nearly 18,000 people were affected as of 30 Aug. One person was killed and one person was injured.

Tropical Storm Toraji has formed along the east coast of China and is expected to move north east towards Japan and the Republic of Korea. The latest forecast predicts it will not strengthen into a tropical cyclone.

An earthquake measuring 6.5M struck off shore about 150 km northeast of Timor-Leste, on 1 Sep. There are no reports of casualties or damages.
