PESHAWAR: At least 35 people have been killed and nearly 150 injured due to heavy rains and windstorm in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Sunday, ARY News reported.
Death toll rises to 45
As the unrelenting rain continued to pelt certain cities of KPK, mostly Nowshera, Charsadda and Peshawar, the death toll rose to 45 people in different incidents across the city.
Hospitals were filled with the injured, as it continued to rain down during intervals. Poles, signboards and trees were uprooted by fierce winds blowing at the speed of 110km/hr. Numerous buildings also collapsed due to the thundering rain. The provincial capital, Peshawar, bore the brunt of the storm. Electricity and communication system throughout the city faced disruption, as Peshawar motorway also got damaged.
Charsadda, Nowshera and neighboring areas were also affected by the rain and windstorm. Roofs of houses were blown away and buildings were razed to the ground by the deadly rain.
