Heavy rains have over the past week continued to affect the central and southern areas of China and most of Pakistan causing floods and flash floods.
In China: national authorities reported that 56 people have died and 22 are missing in Hunan and Guangxi provinces and over 250 000 houses have been damaged. Over the next 24 h, further heavy rain is forecast for the central and south-western in-land areas as well as for the south-eastern coastal areas of the country. An Orange Alert is in effect for lightning, as of 5 July, in Guangxi province.
In Pakistan: local media, as of 5 July, reported that 34 people died, of whom 11 in Punjab, 15 in Balochistan, six in Sindh and two in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, over 40 injuries have been sustained and 100 houses were damaged. Over the next 24 h, thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds may affect several areas of Islamabad, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, FATA, upper Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, including those already affected. The National Disaster Management Authority, as of 5 July, reported that there is a risk of landslides in hilly areas and mountains over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
