SITUATION OVERVIEW

Nigeria accounts for 3% of the world’s 120 million forcibly displaced persons, including those displaced within the country and Nigerian refugees abroad. Conflict, insurgency, and communal violence have forced millions from their homes, with the North-East bearing the heaviest displacement. In Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa (BAY) States, many IDPs remain in overcrowded camps or overstretched host communities, while Adamawa has also received an influx of Cameroonian refugees since mid-2022.

Beyond its borders, hundreds of thousands of Nigerians have sought refuge in neighboring countries, primarily in Cameroon, Niger, and Chad. Meanwhile, within Nigeria, displacement continues to rise due to ongoing violence and insecurity.
