Cholera Situation

In Malawi, the surge in new cases continues with 78 cases reported over the past week, similar to the previous week when 79 new cases were recorded. A total of 329 cases have been confirmed since the outbreak began 8 weeks ago, with half of all cases (157) having been recorded in the past two weeks alone. The districts of Chikwawa (47 new cases) and Nsanje (17 new cases) remain the most affected, with Blantyre reporting 10 new cases, from 1 case registered in the week of 29 March. No new deaths have been recorded. The national Case Fatality Rate (CFR) stands at 0.9.

Mozambique registered 372 new cases this last week, up from 234 the previous week. Since 29 March no new cases have been reported in the previously most affected province of Tete, where funds from the OCHA-managed Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) supported the response. Zambezia Province continued to experience a surge in new cases over the past week (261), and was the only province to register new deaths (4). Another province of concern is Cabo Delgado, which has already registered 74 cases in Pemba City since its first case was confirmed in early April. The national CFR stands at 0.8.

In Zimbabwe, no new cases have been reported since 25 March. The total number of confirmed cases remains at 15 with no deaths since the first confirmed case in late February 2015
