• BORIS formed off the Pacific coast of southern Mexico on 2 June and intensified into a Tropical Storm on 3 June. It made landfall on 4 June morning near Puerto Arista (Chiapas, Mexico), as a Tropical Storm, then moved inland weakening into a Tropical Depression.
Late on 4 June it was a Low Pressure Area located over the state of Chiapas.
• In the last few days, it caused heavy rains in parts of south-eastern Mexico and Guatemala (see inset map with the last 7 days accumulation rainfall TRMM/NASA).
As of 4 June, up to 16 000 precautionary evacuations had taken place in Chiapas (Mexico) and five people died in a landslide in western Guatemala on 30 May (media). Additional heavy rainfall (100 - 200 mm, up to 250 mm) could still affect parts of the states of Oaxaca, Chiapas, Veracruz and Tabasco.
• In the meantime, a new low pressure system formed over the Gulf of Mexico. On 5 June it is located over the southern Bay of Campeche. This system could interact with the remnants of BORIS and produce thunderstorms and rains over the states of the Yucatan Peninsula.
Historical Tropical Cyclones in Mexico:
In September 2013, Mexico was hardly hit by Tropical Cyclones INGRID and MANUEL. At least 140 people were killed during the passage of these Tropical Cyclones.
