Tropical Storm Edilson:
Today, 06 February, as at 11h30 Mauritius local time (UTC+4), a Moderate Tropical Storm named Edilson is moving past Mauritius at a distance of around 100km in a south-westerly direction. A warning is in force, with 62 people currently being accommodated in emergency shelters. Schools have been closed since yesterday, as has the airport, although runways are available for emergency landings if necessary.
While no major damage has been reported to date, it is still too early to assess the eventual impact of Edilson. Authorities and UN Resident Coordinator's Office are closely monitoring the situation and further updates will be provided should the situation worsen.
