I. HIGHLIGHTS/KEY PRIORITIES

  • 4.6 million people are now estimated to be at risk of food insecurity due to conflict in northern Mali and the Sahel food and nutrition crisis.

  • As of 22 August 2012, an estimated 442,775 people had been forced from their homes in Mali, mainly due to the conflict in the north. Of these, 174,000 people were internally displaced, and 268,775 were living as refugees in neighbouring countries.

  • Since 1 January, 159 cases of cholera, including 12 deaths, have been reported in the Gao and Ansongo districts of northern Mali.

  • 11,663 people have reportedly been affected by floods in Ségou and Kayes regions after heavy rains. 11 villages in Tominian and San areas were particularly affected
