South Africa:

The 2014 South African general election was held on 7 May, without major incident. The National Assembly election was won by the African National Congress (ANC) with 62.1%, followed by the Democratic Alliance (DA) with 22.2% and the Economic Freedom Fighters with 6.4%. In the Western Cape, the only province not won by the ANC, the DA won with 59.4%.


Fresh dahalo attacks are being reported in southern Madagascar, where 128 houses have been torched in the village of Andranondambo. A total of 500 people have been displaced.

Following the impact of Tropical Cyclone Hellen in early April, an assessment has found that 24,405 households require agricultural assistance and 14,000 households food security assistance.
