Kenya: 42 killed, 11,000 displaced in Samburu conflict (as of 29 November 2012)

On 10 November, 42 police officers were killed during an ambush in Suguta Valley, which led to over 11,000 displacements following a sharp deterioration of the security situation in Baragoi area of Samburu County. The government ordered the deployment of Kenyan military to support the police's rapid response unit in pursuing the attackers and recover stolen livestock. This triggered population displacement in fear of the planned disarmament exercise. Many displaced people from Baragoi are approximated to have moved to Loikas in Maralal town, Turkana South, and other areas.
