Hotspots appear bright white in this NOAA-17 image. Some of the bright spots around the city of Baghdad may be associated with fires in the area. The single AVHRR channel used to generate this image, channel 3, is sensitive to thermal variations, thus warmer areas appear brighter and cooler areas darker.
