SITUATION
- Severe weather events, including heavy rain, strong winds and tropical cyclones, have been affecting many countries of The Caribbean over the past two months causing casualties and damage. In particular most affected have been the countries of Dominican Republic, Haiti, Cuba, Barbados,St. Lucia, Dominica, Colombia and Panama.
Dominican Republic
- Overall seven people have been killed (of which three due to severe weather and four more due to the passage of TC MATTHEW), over 14 700 people have been displaced and over 3 000 houses have been damaged.
Haiti
- Due to the passage of TC MATTHEW over 28 September-10 October, over 400 people were killed, thousands of homes were damaged and thousands of people had been displaced.
Cuba
- Over the past two months hundreds of homes and schools have been damaged.
Barbados, St. Lucia, Dominica
- Due to heavy rain over the past few weeks at least 45 houses have been partially or fully damaged.
Colombia
- Heavy rain has been affecting several areas of the country over the past month, especially the department of Choco, causing the death of two people and affecting over 20 000.
Panama
- Due to TC OTTO that passed near the northern coast of the country, seven people were killed.
