Situation Overview

Several forest fires broke out in central-southern mainland Greece (Attica, Central Greece and Peloponnese Regions) and Crete Island on 23 July, causing casualties and widespread damage. As of 25 July, major fires were located in eastern Attica (Rafina and Mati, north-east of Athens area) and western Attica (Kineta). As of 26 July, the death toll reached 82 in the area of Mati Beach.
