Damage Assessment in Lauwaki Area, Ba Province, Western Division, Fiji (24 Feb 2016)

This map illustrates the percentages of buildings damaged in the Lauwaki area, Ba Province in the northwestern part of Viti Levu Island, Fiji, as determined by satellite imagery analysis. Using satellite imagery acquired 22 February 2016, UNITAR - UNOSAT identified a total of 20 damaged structures within the extent of this map of which 2 are destroyed, 3 are severely damaged, and 15 have moderate damage. These damaged structures were compared with total numbers of buildings/structures (~1000) determine the percentage of damaged buildings across the area. Based on this analysis, in the area the number of damaged buildings is close to 2%. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field.
