This bulletin is being issued for information only, and reflects the current situation and details available at this time. The Red Cross Society of Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK RCS), with the support of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), has determined that external assistance is not required, and is therefore not seeking funding or other assistance from donors at this time.

Torrential rains and subsequent floods and mudslides have affected several provinces of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea since early July. According to information shared by government authorities with DPRK RCS, at least 88 people died, 134 were injured and 48 others are missing. Up to 62,210 persons were affected by the floods, with 3,504 houses destroyed, 3,013 houses damaged, and 11,825 houses submerged by flood waters.

Widespread damage to industrial facilities, cultivated land and infrastructure including bridges, roads, water and sanitation facilities were reported.

From July 17 onwards, DPRK RCS, with the support of IFRC, has provided emergency relief items to 6,410 families (29,129 persons) in 16 counties of six provinces. Emergency relief items such as quilts with covers, cooking sets, plastic sheets, jerry cans, hygiene kits and water purification tablets, have been distributed from disaster preparedness (DP) warehouses by county and provincial Red Cross branches with close coordination and support from local authorities.
