Heavy rain has been affecting the northern and central areas of the country over the past 48 h, causing floods and landslides.

The National Office of Emergencies of Interior Ministry (ONEMI) reported, as of 27 February at 7.00 UTC, 3 deaths, at least 19 missing people, 225 people evacuated, 830 people remain stranded and 2 houses destroyed in the regions of Antofagasta, Coquimbo, Valparaiso, Metropolitan and O'Higgins. They also reported, as of the same day, that over 1.4 million people are without drinking water in the affected regions.

Over the next 72 h, partly cloudy to cloudy weather conditions with high probability of light to medium intensity local rainfalls (showers) during the warm hours of the day are forecast for the already affected areas. The maximum temperature could reach 29°C-31°C whilst the minimum is expected to drop to 14°C-16°C during early morning hours. Winds from south-southwest directions with local gusts from 25 to 35 km/h are forecast.
