SITUATION
In the afternoon of 12 April a large wildfire that spread from forest areas to nearby houses affected the outskirts of Valparaiso, central coastal Chile, forcing evacuations of thousands of residents.
Early on 14 April (UTC) the wildfire was still burning according to ONEMI.
As of 02.30 UTC on 14 April, there were: 12 dead, 2 000 houses affected, more than 8 000 people were reportedly evacuated and more than 800 hectares had been burned.
Valparaiso has been declared a disaster zone. At least 5 000 personnel and 18 aircraft were involved in the fire-fighting operations on 13 April.
FORECAST: Temperatures in the area are expected to rise to more than 30 degrees on 14 April.
