20 May 2014: Bosnia and Herzegovina/Serbia – Flood situation & int. assistance

Bosnia and Herzegovina

Many cities in the North-East of the country are still under water or mud. Water levels are slowly declining, but the situation is still critical because of numerous landslides.

• Rescue teams are evacuating the population at risk. Many cities still have neither electricity nor running water and there is a shortage of bottled water, food, medication and blankets.

• 15 European countries have offered assistance through the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) in addition to bilateral assistance. The Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC) of DG ECHO is coordinating the assistance and has deployed a Union Civil Protection team (UCPT) on site.
The UCPT is further assessing the situation in coordination with the Bosnian authorities to determine remaining needs.
