Attachments
SITUATION
• According to the Vice Ministry of Civil Defense (SINAGER), as of 14 February 2014 the rainy season in Bolivia had affected 58 691 families in 143 municipalities and damaged 42 904 hectares of arable land and 1 861 houses. As of same day, 56 persons were reported dead and 11 were still missing.
• In the past couple of days, a respite from cloud-cover allowed visible-wavelength satellite mapping of the affected areas. In the inset map we show flood detection using two different techniques: in red the flooded areas as detected by NASA/MODIS (2-day average on 16 February). In striped blue the areas with the strongest flood-magnitude, as detected by the Global Flood Detection System of the Joint Research Centre (Microwave band, lower resolution than MODIS but unaffected by clouds). Strong floods are detected in southern Beni province, between Beni and Mamore rivers, as well as between Mamore and San Miguel.
