• Severe and extreme weather condition with heavy snow continued affecting several districts throughout Afghanistan. In the last days, 182 districts in 20 provinces have been affected by floods, heavy snow and avalanches.

• According to government figures, the number of casualties has risen to 308 people killed, 187 people injured and 4 776 houses having been completely destroyed. Search and rescue operations as well as joint government and humanitarian assessment missions are ongoing.
It is expected that the number of fatalities may rise.

• Weather patterns are likely to continue with widespread precipitation expected across northern and central Afghanistan.
Over the week of 5-11 March, moderate precipitation is forecast for central and northern Afghanistan. Heavy snowfall may affect the highlands in the centre and north-east of the country, while a risk of flooding is present for the low-lying areas of the east.
