Since the end of August, some 400,000 people from the Rohingya minority have crossed the Myanmar border and taken refuge in Bangladesh. Joining 300,000 to 500,000 Rohingyas already present in the country. The humanitarian needs are huge in terms of food, access to water and sanitary facilities, but also health care, rehabilitation sessions and accommodation.
Welthungerhilfe is one of the largest private aid organizations in Germany, with no political or religious affiliation. It was founded in 1962 under the umbrella of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). At that time, it was the German section of the ‘Freedom from Hunger Campaign’, one of the first global initiatives for the fight against hunger. Purpose of the role: To support sustainable utilization of natural resources, shared environment and promote safe access to energy (fuel). The incumbent will build resilience of the target communities’ in disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation and ecosystem management. S/he will proactively promote appropriate smart climate (green) technologies and approaches in collaboration with private sector and development actors and determine how best to incorporate these approaches into AAH Uganda operations.
