Board member with international expertise

To realize its ambitions and its mission for girls, children and young people, Plan International Belgium strives for a diverse composition of its general assembly and Board of Directors, also in terms of competences and experience. To strengthen our Board of Directors, we are looking for a Board member with experience in international cooperation, international programming, development cooperation, and/or humanitarian aid.

Your role as a member of our Board of Directors

The Board of Directors of a non-profit organization in Belgium plays a crucial role in the governance and management of the association. The Board of Directors is responsible for strategic and operational management and ensures that the association's activities are in accordance with the statutes and current legislation. Directors must perform their duties carefully and cautiously, always keeping the interests of the association in mind. The Board of Directors is responsible for preparing and publishing the annual reports, accounts and balance sheets, thus ensuring transparency towards members and the public. In addition, the council can set up management committees or appoint directors with specific powers to better meet the needs of the non-profit association.

As a member of the Board of Directors, you play a crucial role in the governance of the organization. What we expect from you:
• You will attend board meetings (4 times a year) in the evenings or on weekends, as well as two meetings of the general assembly (on weekends).
• You will actively contribute to the development and monitoring of Plan International Belgium's strategy.
You will bring your expertise and experience to support the projects and initiatives of Plan International Belgium.
• Together with the other members of the board, you will ensure the legal and ethical compliance of the activities of Plan International Belgium.
• You will participate in the life of the organization by occasionally attending events organized by Plan International Belgium or by the Plan community.

Required profile

We are looking for candidates with the following characteristics and competencies:
• strong commitment to the rights of girls and young women worldwide;
• active in civil society in Belgium;
• knowledge and experience in the field of international cooperation, international programme work, development cooperation and/or humanitarian aid;
• network within organizations that are active in this field, in particular the various development cooperation and humanitarian actors such as governments, NGOs, multilateral institutions, as well as a variety of donors in the field of international cooperation;
• contemporary vision on themes that are central to international cooperation, such as decolonization and equal partnerships
• experience in partner countries;
• good communication and team skills;
• ability to think critically and make informed decisions;
• actively participate in the meetings and activities of the association;
• very good knowledge of English (the language in which the meetings are held) and Dutch and/or French.

• the opportunity to work for equality for girls around the world and in Belgium at various events.
A directorship at Plan International Belgium lasts for four years, counting from the general meeting at which the appointment takes place (29/11/2025). Prior to the official appointment, you can already get to know the organization and its board.

Good to know: our premises are in the heart of Brussels, next to the Central Station. If necessary, we can reimburse your transportation costs.
