Project Summary
MEDS has a contract with USAID Kenya called USAID Dawa za Ubora, which is scheduled to conclude in June 2026. The purpose of the contract is to obtain efficient, reliable and accountable supply chain management services for the procurement, warehousing, and distribution of health commodities for HIV, Malaria, Tuberculosis, Maternal/Neonatal/Child Health (MNCH) and Global Health Security (GHS) activities for patients across all 47 Counties in Kenya for adequate care, treatment and prevention for communicable diseases and other health needs.
About the role
The Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and reliable project accounting information, managing project budgets, and ensuring compliance with USG guidelines and financial requirements. The offer and contract are subject to availability of USG donor funding.
Job Responsibilities
i. Oversee day-to-day accounting to guarantee that documentation associated with financial transactions meets MEDS and donor requirements, ensuring accurate financial tracking and reporting.
ii. Obtain necessary tax exemptions and waivers for project activities to comply with Kenya laws and USG guidelines, minimizing financial risks and ensuring legal compliance.
iii. Coordinate timely preparation of annual foreign tax reports to fulfil reporting obligations and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
iv. Prepare monthly cash flow projection reports and submit them to the Finance and Operations Director (FOD) by collaborating with the Warehouse, Logistics, and Procurement teams, to ensure accurate forecasting and effective budget management.
v. Administer staff payroll reimbursements to MEDS commercial accounts while adhering to MEDS policies, procedures, staff contracts, and statutory/regulatory requirements, ensuring staff compensation is processed correctly and efficiently.
vi. Coordinate regular asset verification and prepare the annual inventory report to maintain accurate asset records.
vii. Prepare accurate and comprehensive financial reports in compliance with donor requirements.
viii. Participate in budgeting for proposals, annual work plans, and budgets by providing input from the technical team, to support effective financial planning and alignment with project goals.
ix. Manage risks, including fraud risk, to protect the project's financial integrity and image.
x. Coordinate preparation of audit schedules and fund accountability statements to facilitate smooth audit activities for use during internal and external audits.
xi. Monitor compliance with financial regulations and donor requirements by maintaining an up-to-date and comprehensive understanding of contracts and organizational policies.
xii. Adhere to statutory reporting and tax regulations requirements for compliance.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or Finance or a related field
• Certified Public Accountant
• Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience (3) of which should be in a USG-funded project.
