Fact-Checking and Hate Speech Trainer

Olive Branch (OB) is a non-profit and non-governmental organization established in response to the degradation of the humanitarian situations in Syria in 2012. OB’s mission is to contribute to building tolerant and resilient societies and combat negative ideas that have spread during hard circumstances, through protection, education, peacebuilding, and development. OB’s works with Syrian civil society partners and marginalized groups, in particular, young men and women, to achieve a democratic transition in Syria.

Currently, OB is implementing a project titled “Strengthening Youth Inclusion in Public Affairs” with the support of the European Union Commission. The project aims at strengthening youth-led Community-Based Organization (CBOs), volunteering teams, and initiatives access the decision-making process and actively participating in the UN-led political process in Syria
SCOPE OF WORK

The Trainer will work closely with OB’s program team to carry out the following tasks:

  1. Develop the Advanced Search and Fact-Checking training curriculum focusing on the following aspects:

    1. Principles of fact-checking.
    2. Verification Tools and Methods: tools and methods for verifying images, videos, and textual information, including reverse image search and metadata analysis.
    3. Introduction to hate speech strategy and detection.
  2. Deliver two online training sessions (3 days each) for partner organizations on advanced search and fact-checking.

  3. Support OB’s M&E team in developing the pre- and post-assessment and ensure all participants have filled the assessment.

  4. Submit a training report, that include key insights, lessons learned, challenges, and successes.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

The service provider is responsible for:

  1. Preparing a work plan, including training topics with a brief description and learning goals of each topic after signing the contract.

  2. Conducting a consultation with the partner organizations and OB's team to develop the training material, where needed.

  3. Amending the training material in accordance with the needs and suggestions of the partner organizations and OB's team.

  4. Preparing the training material in written and as presentation (PowerPoint) and must focus on dialogue and discussion and include a wide range of practical exercises.

  5. Encouraging the active participation of partner organizations during the training.

  6. Maintaining confidentiality regarding participants' ID and any other aspect related to the training.

    TARGETED GROUP

The targeted group are young male and female representatives of the partner Youth-led Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) aged 18-35 from across Syria.
QUALIFICATIONS

The perfect candidate should have:

  1. University degree in social sciences, international relations, economics, or a related field.
  2. In-depth understanding of the context and key stakeholders across Syria, including NW, NE, and South.
  3. Proficient in online platforms like Zoom or similar tools.
  4. Strong facilitation skills and excellent communication skills.
  5. Ability to adapt and respond to participants' needs during sessions.
  6. Experience in delivering interactive and engaging online sessions.
