Emergency Child Protection Specialist - Gaza

Tdh :

Terre des hommes Foundation (Tdh), with headquarters in Lausanne and an office in Zurich, is the leading Swiss organisation for child rights. In 2022, we supported 2.6 million children and members of their communities around the world. We trained people who in turn supported a further 4.5 million children and members of their communities.

Context :

Terre des hommes Lausanne (Tdh) opened its delegations in Palestine in 1973. The main coordination office of is in Jerusalem and there is a sub-office in Gaza. Tdh implements a resilience-based approach aiming to strength the whole system for the benefit of vulnerable children and families. Tdh started the emergency response in Gaza in November 2023, with a first project supporting war affected population with Food and Nonfood items. Currently, Tdh is implementing a 3 million CHF emergency portfolio focusing on child protection, health and wash.

Responsibilities :

Under the line management of the Emergency Field Coordinator in Gaza and the technical supervision of the Senior CP/MHPSS Specialist in Jerusalem, the Emergency Child Protection Specialist will be responsible for providing on-the-ground technical support and capacity building to the team implementing child protection, MHPSS and education activities, including the Gaza CP/MHPSS Officer, Case Managers, and Facilitators. The specialist will actively participate in and report to key coordination fora, such as the MHPSS Technical Working Group, CP-AoR, and GBV Sub-Cluster, while strengthening collaboration with peer child protection organizations, UN agencies, and working groups operating in Gaza.

The role involves supporting the establishment and implementation of safeguarding processes, ensuring compliance with global and local policies and standards, and playing a central role in mainstreaming and rolling out Tdh’s safeguarding policy in Gaza in collaboration with relevant departments. The Emergency Child Protection Specialist will also work closely with the Senior CP/MHPSS Specialist to enhance mental health and child protection manuals, approaches, and SoPs, ensuring their alignment with best practices.

He/She will ensure that the emergency response is aligned with Tdh’s child protection principles, the Child protection Mininum Standards in Humanitarian Action (CPMS) and Tdh’s child protection in humanitarian crises policy, as well as relevant national and global refugee protection principles.

Profile :

Education : Post graduate degree in Psychology, Social Sciences, International Development

Experience & Competencies :

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in similar position is preferred.
  • Previous experiences in the Middle-East region/Palestine working on MHPSS, SGBV, education and child protection would be a distinct advantage.
  • Significant experience of working in emergencies and conflict zones in INGOPrevious relevant experience and extensive knowledge of project design and experience in project development.

Languages :

  • Excellent oral and writing skills in English.
  • Knowledge of Arabic is an asset.

IT :

Advanced IT skills

Conditions:

  • Swiss Labour Law contract
  • Gross monthly salary between CHF 4’000.- and CHF 4’800.- depending on experience - x13,36 months
  • Insurances: sickness, accident, repatriation
  • Annual leaves: 25 days/year
  • Flights to duty station and back
