Handicap International is changing his name and becomes « Humanity & Inclusion ». HI, Humanity & Inclusion is an independent and impartial aid and development organisation with no religious or political affiliations operating in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflict and disaster. Since November 2018, HI has been implementing an innovative 3D printing and tele rehabilitation project in Omugo Refugee Settlement in Uganda to address the unmet rehabilitation needs of refugees with disabilities. Currently we are implementing the second phase of the project to provide devices to additional refugees with disabilities in Omugo camp and extend the project's scope to Imvepi camp. The second phase also consists of building capacities of local professionals and collaborating with MoH on the definition of Technical Standards for 3D printing. It will build on the existing partnerships with local hospitals and the established infrastructure. Furthermore, the 2nd phase will conduct a comprehensive research on cost-benefits of 3D printing technology.
This mission answers to Humanity & Inclusion's will to produce reliable and relevant information on the costs & benefits of digital solutions as 3D printings orthoses in LMIC.
The 3i Division is dedicated to the quality and continuous improvement of operations. It promotes an agile approach to identify and define approaches, methods and processes necessary for the design, management and development of social mission operations. It promotes and supports the development of skills and changes in practices of HI staff and its operational partners. It works to develop an innovative and learning organization in all its contexts of intervention and activities.
The 3i Division has a staff of 13 persons, responsible for supporting the various facets of this mandate for Humanity & Inclusion programs and is composed of 5 units: MEAL, Data, Innovation, Research and Transversal Themes.
The research unit's mission is to lead the governance of research within HI, to promote research and the production of evidence, to create new research opportunities by developing scientific collaborations and contributing to the projects design and to contribute to the capacity building of the teams.
The position will work closely with the Uganda Program, the Rehabilitation Technical Division and the Innovation Unit (3i direction).
The 3i Division is looking for a Research Officer
OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION:
Under the supervision of the Research Specialist, as research officer, you will ensure the development (Protocol & administrative authorizations), the implementation (data collection, field-work monitoring; data processing & analysis) and the dissemination of research findings (report writing and sharing).
Your main responsibilities are:
You design the methodology of the research
• You provide an overview of the types and characteristics of research which include a cost analysis component
• You understand the operational project documents and the context in order to propose a relevant and realistic methodology for the production of reliable data (e.g. to identify the cost centers upon which to analyse the costs to a service)
• You write the protocol in collaboration with HI colleagues (with a minima: objectives (general & specific), target population, location, study design, selection of participants, data collection, data analysis, quality monitoring mechanisms, time schedule, budget, ethics considerations) and you create data collection tools (interviews guideline, questionnaire if necessary…)
• You obtain the necessary national authorizations for the successful completion of the research
You plan and implement the research in Uganda
• You coordinate with the Uganda team the implementation of the research
• You support the recruitment of translators and train the research data collection team
• You collect data on the field (respecting the agreed methodology). One long mission to be planned on the field (3 weeks/ 1 month)
• You ensure data processing and analysis (in collaboration with the field team)
You ensure the report production & sharing of research findings
• You produce at least one research report, one brief paper and one infographic on the research
• You contribute to the findings dissemination (internally and externally). At mission level, organization & facilitation of a dissemination workshop with partners.
You contribute to the administrative follow-up of the research
• You contribute to the management of the budget for the implementation of the research
• You ensure that the implementation is in line with the administrative, time and financial requirements
· You hold a PhD in economics/public health/humanities (sociology/ anthropology)/Health Services Management; or epidemiology Or a Master's level Level 2 in economics/ public health/ humanities (sociology/ anthropology)/ Health Services Management; or epidemiology + 2 years' proven experience as a research officer
· You have at least 2 years’ experience in a position related to the implementation of quantitative/ qualitative researches in developing countries (research officer, MEAL position or other)
· You have a good experience in cost benefit analysis studies (economics analysis)
· You are able to deal with all research cycle steps (from design to findings sharing)
· You have a proven experience in quantitative/ qualitative data collection, processing and analysis and a good knowledge of research ethics standards
· You are fluent in English and French would be an asset
· You have an excellent knowledge of a quantitative data analysis software (Stata, SPSS or other) and excellent knowledge of qualitative data analysis software (N'Vivo)
CONDITIONS OF THE POSITION:
· 3,5 months fixed term contract starting from February 2022
· Additional benefits depending of the location, Lyon or Brussels
