Registration is a core part of UNHCR mandate since it represents a key protection tool for identification and registration of persons of concern, identification of needs, provision of various types of assistance, including provision of various types of protection services, issuance of certificates, confirming an asylum seeker or refugee status in Iraq. Registration allows the obtaining of residency documents from Government authorities, which in turns guarantees the freedom of movement, access to basic services and livelihoods. The requested UNOPS position will be participating in the Registration activities directly conducted by UNHCR Suleimaniyah. UNHCR FO Suleimaniyah registration team is responsible for carrying out the registration activities of 31,053 individuals (equivalent to 9,781 registration groups). Registration activities of these cases include new/continuous registration and the renewal of certificates so as to facilitate the renewal of resident permits. FO Suleimaniyah carries out registration in two centres – Arbat Refugee Camp and Suleimaniyah urban registration center. The Reception Clerk is a member of the registration team and is supervised by a more senior colleague who normally reports directly to the Registration Officer. The incumbent is responsible for supporting all activities related to registration, which may also include functions related to reception, filing and data management. S/he responds to queries from asylum seekers and refugees regarding UNHCR's registration procedures and their rights and entitlements. The Reception Clerk liaises with protection staff and partners to ensure timely identification and referral of persons of concern for protection follow up and may provide interpretation and/or translation services in cases for which s/he has the required language competencies. The incumbent of the position may be required to travel to other registration centres as well as conduct mobile missions to provide support when necessary.

  • Verify all adult in the family/household through fingerprint screening.

  • Verify fingerprint data with Iris Guard if required.

  • Check the validity of the appointment tokens and orients the individuals accordingly.

  • Get photocopy of the documents.

  • Summary verification of the basic bio-data.

  • Access the relevant information and records which may be sensitive and confidential.

  • Prioritize tasks in consultation with the supervisor.

  • Perform any other tasks required by the supervisor.

Monitoring and Progress Controls:

  • Identify persons with Specific Needs (Physical Disability) that require to be fast tracked through the process.

  • Verification of family composition and related basic functions which will fall under responsibilities of the position.


  • 1-year relevant work experience with High School Diploma or Bachelor or equivalent or higher.

  • Knowledge of English and Arabic languages.


  • Knowledge of Kurdish language.

Functional Skills:
