Primary responsibilities of the Senior Program Advisor in Afghanistan are the following: (1) support the management and delivery of social and behavioural change research and communications projects in close consultation with project managers; (2) business development, partner development and client liaison; and (3) organisational knowledge management. We are looking for an experienced project manager who is highly organised, driven by a keen desire to deliver social impact, and has an entrepreneurial spirit. The Programme Manager will provide management and implementation support to a diverse range of programmes in the SBC research and communications field. Typical tasks include:
Providing oversight, management and coordination for new and ongoing SBC communications and research programmes across Afghanistan;
Meeting regularly with leaders and representatives from Afghan government ministries, civil society organisations (CSOs) and local communities to gain their support and approval to drive forward the implementation of projects;
Devising strategies for the effective implementation of activities, integrating SBC principles throughout;
Drafting technical reports, project presentations and programme updates;
Overseeing the coordination of project partners (e.g. consultants, media, CSOs);
Conducting on ground monitoring of MAGENTA’s activities in Afghanistan;
Conducting internal and external training/workshops on a needs basis;
Monitoring of project KPIs;
Project budget management, including cost tracking;
Organising relevant project documentation;
Managing project logistics when necessary, including travel.
Business Development and Client Liaison:
Representation of MAGENTA in Afghanistan, building relationships and liaising with clients;
Developing business opportunities for MAGENTA;
Developing and managing ongoing relationships with project partners; and identifying new partnership opportunities;
Contributing to the development of new project proposals.
Contributing to the MAGENTA database, including past performance records, contact lists, partner testimonials, meeting notes;
Conducting regular Afghanistan country analysis and stakeholder mapping;
Developing project case studies for marketing and program development purposes.
REQUIREMENTS & COMPETENCIES
6-9 years of professional experience;
At least 3 years of project management experience;
Demonstrated ability to facilitate consensus;
Experience in communications and/or research; experience in training an advantage;
Strategic thinker, with a keen desire to learn and consume new information;
Robust logic chain analytics and strong general analytical skills;
Solid understanding of project management cycle;
Highly numerate, with strong commercial acumen;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities;
Demonstrated desire for excellence and an ability to inspire others to attain professional excellence;
English and Dari speaking, Pashto desirable;
Good sense of humour, personable and demonstrated ability to build networks;
Entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to get hands dirty;
Software fluency: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Office 365.
- Some long hours including evening and weekends to complete tasks or attend events.
