Under a National Personal Service agreement contract (PSA) for a period of six months, the coordinator will work under the direct supervisor of FAOR in Syria as the leader of the working team on the Hand in Hand initiative. The coordinator will work closely with the teams in FAO HQ, RNE and Syria during the initial analysis phase of the initiative. The coordinator will need to conduct close consultation with the various government departments contributing to the initiative.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Introduce to the government task force the steps of the first phase of the initiative
  • Conduct in coordination with the technical teams in FAO and government the situation analysis

  • Collect background document relating to production potential and intensification

  • Participate in Donor mapping

  • Identify data sets which are available on natural resource availability; socioeconomic data; poverty; agro-meteorology

  • Typologies assessment

  • Conduct close consultation with the technical teams in FAO and the government to identify target regions

  • Design in consultation with the technical teams in FAO and the government, a capacity-building programme for statistics and NAPC to improve their capacity in data collection, analysis and policies and investment programmes design. This will be built over the results of the ongoing Technical Cooperation Programme activities with the government

  • Liaise and support the implementation of capacity building programme

  • Provide support to the government to establish its national hand in hand dashboard/ database in coordination with the relevant teams in MAAR and FAO.

  • Liaise and coordinate the discussions and consultations required to design an investment programme for priority targeted regions.

  • Conduct validation meetings with partners on the investment programme.

  • Minimum Requirements:

  • Post Graduate Degree in Economics.

  • 15 years’ experience in relevant experience.

  • Language skills: fluent in English and working knowledge in a second UN language.

  • National of Syria.
