Advocacy Coordinator - Caracas (Solo Nacionales)

Represent NRC at advocacy coordination forums and support the work of NRC’s program partners to identify and utilise advocacy opportunities

General responsibilities

• Prepare and regularly update analysis, updates, key messages, talking points and briefing materials for private and public use;
• When delegated by Country Director, liaise and collaborate with relevant local and national authorities and stakeholders and represent NRC in relevant forums/cluster/working groups;
• Support on the development and coordination of the implementation of external communication (public information, communication, reporting) and media (international, regional and local media and social media) strategy, proposals and plans;
• Train and develop programme staff to build capacity in developing communication materials and engaging with media;
• Any other tasks and responsibilities falling under the sections mandate, as instructed by the line manager;

Specific responsibilities
• Ensure that advocacy and communications materials, including talking points and key messages, are consistently updated and are of a high quality and consistency with NRC positions in Venezuela and the Region;
• Review all communication material produced by NRC nationally, regionally or globally that refers to Venezuela;
• Develop advocacy and communication relevant SOP as necessary;
• Research and keep updated on policy, political and contextual developments in Venezuela as they relate to NRC programs and priorities;
• Update and analyse program information and statistics to support advocacy and media outreach;
• Promote NRC Venezuela in national media for advocacy and programme purposes;
• Ensure the delivery of quality communication products (feature stories, press releases, photo-stories etc.) in English and Spanish for NRC’s social media platforms; Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and for NRC´s website;
• Coordinate with NRC Regional, and Head Offices to develop coherent and strategic advocacy and communications work (including Venezuela advocacy strategy);
• Support field teams with the preparation for external visits to NRC field activities by media, donors and others, ensuring NRC’s media guidelines and policies are observed.
• Support Country Director and Area Managers in organizing advocacy initiatives to increase NRC humanitarian access to the population in need for humanitarian assistance.
• Support Country Director in maintaining and developing NRC relations with local and national authorities, including by facilitating the organization of meeting.


Generic professional competencies for this position:
• Experience from working in an advocacy project implementation position in a humanitarian/recovery context;
• Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts;
• Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities;
• Fluency in English and Spanish, both written and verbal;
• Basic photography, video and social media skills are highly desirable;
• Proven experience with communication within the humanitarian sector will be a plus.

Context related skills, knowledge and experience (shall be adapted to the specific position):
• Higher relevant university degree in Political Science or related field;
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience;
• Ability to produce high-quality private and public documents, materials and other communications in Spanish and English;
• Knowledge of the humanitarian community and familiarity with the humanitarian architecture in Venezuela and the political situation;
• Knowledge of IDPs/Refugees international legal framework
• Knowledge of communicating humanitarian needs and ethical reporting;
• Commitment to humanitarian principles and dedication to humanitarian work;
