What Young Peacebuilders (YP) Does
YP develops partnerships, research, projects, and tools that nurture peacebuilding passion and skill in children and youth with a focus on contexts impacted by armed conflict. In this way YP helps prevent and end cycles of violence. We also help design effective child and youth peacebuilding projects and research for others. We want to see a major shift in the dominant method of addressing contemporary conflicts toward investing in young people as peacebuilders.
Role Overview and Responsibilities
Young Peacebuilders is seeking an enthusiastic volunteer with Spanish and English fluency to translate key resources to be disseminated to our Spanish partners around the world. These important training materials are used by our partners to support children and young people in setting up peace clubs and running peace projects in their local communities. It is anticipated that approximately 10 days of translation work is initially required with the potential for additional work in the future.

Compile information and technical terms into glossaries and terminology databases to be used in translations.
Relay the style and tone of the original language
Render spoken and written messages accurately, quickly and clearly
Apply cultural knowledge to render an accurate and meaningful interpretation or translation of the original message
To have people read and understand the translation as if it was the original written material.
Concentration - Translators must be able to concentrate while others are speaking or moving around them.
Cultural Sensitivity - Be sensitive to cultural differences and expectations among the people whom they are helping to translate. Successful translating does not only need knowing the words in different languages but also of understanding people’s cultures.
