Project manager (m/f/d) for the Food and Nutrition Security in Rakhine State project

Job description

The Food and Nutrition Security in Rakhine State project is financed from the transitional development assistance budget. The aim of the project is to improve the food and hygiene practices of people in selected regions of Rakhine State, especially of women of reproductive age and their infants. The project pursues a multisectoral approach and operates in three fields of action: (1) introducing new mechanisms for sharing knowledge on food, nutrition and hygiene; (2) improving advisory services on mother and child nutrition/health and hygiene; and (3) increasing the diversity of fruit and vegetables produced by vulnerable households. Disaster prevention is taken into consideration as a cross-cutting task. The project is being implemented in close partnership with regional line ministries, national and international non-governmental organisations and the target population.

Your tasks

  • Responsibility for planning, steering, reporting and implementing the project on schedule (this also covers contracts, procurement, financial management, results-based monitoring)
  • Managing a team of international and national staff, and providing technical and administrative support
  • Coordinating project strategies and planned project activities with local decision-makers and other development organisations operating in the project region
  • Cooperating and coordinating closely with other GIZ projects in the field of food and nutrition security
  • Liaising with other actors as well as with relevant public administration bodies and international organisations

Your profile

  • University-level degree (Master’s) in nutritional science, nutrition and rural development, public health, agriculture or a comparable discipline
  • Many years’ experience of working in (international) development cooperation, both in Germany and abroad
  • Project management and financial management experience
  • Experience of working in fragile contexts and of applying the ‘do no harm’ approach
  • Extensive experience of working in food and nutrition security and disaster risk management
  • In-depth knowledge of nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive strategies and activities
  • Skill in establishing and cultivating networks and diplomatic finesse when cooperating with internal and external partners
  • Ideally, experience in media and communications management and strong intercultural skills
  • Fluency in business English is required; good knowledge of German
