BACKGROUND

Digital engagement plays an important role in UNICEF's response to global shifts in the fields of communication, fundraising, advocacy, and partnership. The use of digital media platforms helps position UNICEF in Eswatini as a knowledge leader, expands outreach and broadens engagement around children's rights. Effective use of digital channels for communication of UNICEF's key messages, through relevant content, experience, and dialogue, allows individuals to connect directly with other individuals or groups, as well as brands and organizations, thus creating valuable relationships with both online and offline supporters. The Programme Effectiveness section, working closely with other programme teams, is responsible for UNICEF’s external relations and advocacy functions, and leads and manages external communications, through digital communications, media, marketing, and branding. The team is responsible for developing and maintaining UNICEF’s digital properties including website, blogs, and social media. To use digital communication platforms more effectively to increase digital brand engagement, UNICEF Eswatini is currently looking for two Interns (Media Design & Communications) to support the programme team in creating web and social media communication for programmes, events for promotional purposes and campaignsHow can you make a difference?

The interns’ main responsibilities/tasks include:

1)Communications and external relations support: •Continuously support the implementation of UNICEF external relations interventions, using innovative approaches for improved engagement and activities to attract new audiences;•Increase UNICEF Eswatini’s social media reach by expanding presence at all relevant social media platforms •Prepare social media packs for flagship events, initiatives and campaigns;•Actively engage with online audiences through social media channels•Support UNICEF branding, including the development of print materials

2)Website update and content management •Manage Country Office website and social media accounts daily, and ensure dissemination of key stories;•Generate interest pieces for social media.

3)Support with basic visibility design and implementation •Adapt multimedia assets for the local Eswatini audiences;•Draft tasks and work closely with external designers to make sure all visibility materials meet UNICEF visibility standards;•Create and maintain photo, video, design samples library in good order•Participate in different communications and advocacy events, field trips and fundraising campaigns to generate (live) social media content•Reporting monthly with an agreed template.

To qualify as a/an [champion or advocate] for every child you will… •Be a final year student/graduate in digital communications, multimedia design, PR, communication, marketing or related field•Have experience maintaining social media accounts, as well as experience with new media•Have knowledge and understanding of the local and global digital landscape and trends.•Be able to convert completed and abstract ideas into simple visual concepts•Have strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task•Be fluent and have excellent reading and writing skills in English •Have strong academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records or, if not available, a reference letter from an academic supervisor •Demonstrate flexibility – ability to work effectively on multiple assignments simultaneously and adapts to changing demands and circumstances, and be able to work both independently and as part of a team

Interns should have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office.

UNICEF accepts no responsibility for the medical insurance of the intern or costs arising from accidents and illness incurred during the internship, including while on duty travel. Interns have to demonstrate proof of medical insurance prior to the beginning of the internship.
