Overview of the functions of the position
Under the overall authority of the Director of the UNESCO Office for Iraq and the direct supervision of the Security Officer, the SC holder with vocational experience in security provides support on matters of safety and security with the ultimate goal of keeping UNESCO personnel and offices in Iraq safe and secure.
The SC holder will be responsible for:
Assess the security situation in the area of responsibility, and prepare security risk assessments and reports on a regular basis or as required;
Build and maintain information/contact networks throughout the area of assignment in order to enhance UNESCO s field security capacity;
Assist in safeguarding UNESCO operations, staff and assets;
Liaise with local authorities, including law enforcement, civil authorities, NGOs, and UN security to obtain and exchange information on security issues;
Maintain address and telephone lists for UNESCO staff based in the area of responsibility. This includes UNESCO staff on mission;
Ensure maps showing the locations of staff residences are regularly updated, and available to all senior management;
Support in providing basic security training on security awareness, preparedness and responses for all staff as part of the induction process to the office;
Assist in the preparation, maintenance and distribution of security guidelines to all staff in relation to security measures, standards and policy.
Maintains a database of all security incidents and completes REPORTS AS REQUIRED;
Keep records of the issuance and return of UNESCO ID cards;
Respond/assist to emergencies/crises that may involve UNESCO operations, staff and assets;
Conduct regular field trips in order to enhance UNESCO s field security capacity;
Assist in or conduct security & safety related investigations;
Performs other security related duties as designated by the Field Security Advisor.
A successful candidate will be required to demonstrate the following competencies:

· Completed secondary, technical or vocational education in relevant field.
· A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience.
Skills and competencies
· Good interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to draft correspondence and correct documents.
· Good organizational, coordination and filing skills.
· Ability to work as part of a team, to take initiative and to provide quality and timely support and services.
· Discretion and capacity to deal efficiently and tactfully with people of different cultural backgrounds.
· Flexibility to adjust work schedules and priorities.
· Good computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, knowledge of databases, SharePoint, ERP/SAP systems etc.).
· Excellent knowledge of Arabic and English;
· Military, Police or National Intelligence background is an asset.
An assessment exercise may be used in the evaluation of candidates.

Benefits and entitlements
The candidate shall be offered a Service Contract with a net salary of approximately USD 22,939.00 per annum (Social Security included).
The initial contract is for a probationary period of 3 months renewable subject to satisfactory service; and contingent on the availability of funding;
Other benefits include 2.5 days per month annual leave.
