Job Summary

Want to put your email marketing experience to work making the world a better place? Then Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is looking for you!

CRS needs a seasoned email marketer to keep our email marketing outreach efforts aligned across the agency. You will be responsible for the development of email strategies and goals, a consolidated email marketing calendar, and CRS standards and best practices. You will build effective, high-converting email templates in our digital marketing system; test and send emails; run and analyze reports; and optimize CRS' email marketing strategies to realize its full potential. You'll report to the digital director and collaborate with designers, writers, database managers, analysts and our UX/digital strategist, among others.

Job Responsibilities

  • Guide email marketing campaign strategies: help units detail tactics and align with an overall marketing calendar
  • Ensure email campaigns align with strategies, tactics, and styles used across other channels: social, mobile, web, search engine marketing, etc.
  • Support the digital fundraising team with new donor acquisition, multi-channel giving, monthly sustainer conversion, and emergency appeals
  • Support the Mission and Mobilization team's including action alerts,
  • Lead re-engagement strategies
  • Lead IP warm-up strategies for new lists
  • Lead special projects, segmentation strategies, testing plans for optimization (i.e A/B testing of subject lines, length, etc.), and key performance indicators
  • Troubleshoot HTML, CSS and other performance issues to ensure identical rendering across browsers, ESPs, and devices
  • Ensure mobile-friendly templates and adherence to brand standards
  • Make recommendations on how to grow email lists
  • Collaborate to ensure the health of our lists and address list health consequences (such as removal from IP blacklist lists)
  • Monitor to prevent over-mailing to subscribers (i.e., list fatigue)
  • Lead A/B and/or multivariate tests
  • Lead tracking, reporting, and optimization efforts
  • Stay current with the latest email techniques and technologies
  • Ensure all email campaigns comply with current email best practices


  • Experience with email tools (Blackbaud Luminate, EveryAction, Exact Target, NCR, etc.) required
  • Experience implementing responsive email design
  • Expertise in HTML and CSS
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop (or similar)
  • Ability to troubleshoot coding problems such as padding on tables, button rendering, image rendering on mobile devices, etc.
  • Good understanding of database concepts and segmentation
  • Knowledge of SQL a plus
  • Experience in digital fundraising and advocacy a plus
  • Experience in email campaign building and list selection preferred
  • BA degree and 6+ years of experience
