The Public International Law & Policy Group, a Nobel Peace Prize nominee, is a non-profit organization that operates as a global, pro bono law firm providing free legal assistance to governments, sub-state entities and civil society groups engaged in negotiating and implementing peace agreements, drafting post-conflict constitutions, and establishing and operating transitional justice mechanisms. To facilitate the utilization of this legal assistance, PILPG also provides policy formulation advice and training on matters related to conflict resolution.

PILPG has advised over 30 governments, sub-state entities, and civil society organizations involved in the negotiation and implementation of peace agreements, post-conflict constitutions, and transitional justice mechanisms, including in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Burma, Egypt, Darfur, Georgia, Kenya, Kosovo, Iraq, Libya, Montenegro, Nepal, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tanzania, Uganda, and Yemen. PILPG has also provided legal assistance to every international criminal tribunal.

Position Description
PILPG’s Washington, DC headquarters is searching for a dynamic professional who is passionate about peace negotiations, human rights, and transitional justice to support PILPG’s global programs. Reporting to the Vice President for Strategic Partnerships, the Pro Bono Program Associate will be responsible for supporting the management of PILPG’s pro bono resources. In this position, the Pro Bono Program Associate will play an active role in facilitating pro bono contributions to the organization’s global body of work and fostering PILPG’s network of professional partners.

Role and Responsibilities
The Pro Bono Program Associate will assist with the overall management of pro bono resources within PILPG, including student contributions, as well as law firm and other institutional partnerships. Responsibilities will involve managing pro bono timelines, reviewing internal requests for pro bono assistance, and tracking pro bono contributions to PILPG’s portfolio of clients and projects over multi-year periods. The Pro Bono Program Associate will also support the cultivation of relationships between PILPG and its pro bono partners by coordinating events, providing feedback to partners, and assisting the Vice President of Strategic Partnerships in managing law firm partner solicitations and donation management. When requested by funders, the Pro Bono Program Associate will facilitate pro bono audit preparation, as well as draft and manage Volunteer Agreements and volunteer forms. PILPG is a leader in providing innovative legal and policy support to clients in conflict and post-conflict environments, and the Pro Bono Program Associate’s administrative and managerial support allows PILPG to promptly and effectively respond to client needs.

The Pro Bono Program Associate will also gain insight into the management of non-profit organizations through assisting with the day-to-day operational needs of PILPG’s pro bono portfolio. This includes coordinating meeting logistics and troubleshooting issues with office technology as they arise.

The Pro Bono Program Associate will assist the Vice President of Strategic Partnerships with the hiring and onboarding of new pro bono volunteers, including participating in interviews, managing pro bono candidate correspondence, and organizing orientation and training schedules for new volunteers.

Qualifications
To qualify for the Pro Bono Program Associate position, candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; have one to two years’ of previous professional experience working in a fast-paced office environment; possess strong organization skills; and display acute attention to detail. An outstanding candidate will be an effective communicator and can demonstrate the ability to take ownership of responsibilities and office processes. Candidates should also be flexible in completing quick-turnaround assignments and have strong writing and editing abilities.
