Legal Field Team, Fluent in English, Qualified Lawyer
The Advocates Abroad Legal Field Team (Greece) provides legal and non-legal aid to refugees and asylum seekers. Advocates Abroad has field missions throughout Greece, specifically: Samos, Chios, Lesvos, Leros, Athens, Polycastro, and Thessaloniki.
Advocates Abroad provides clinics several times weekly for group and individual legal and non-legal aid. The primary duty of the Legal Field Team is to assist asylum applicants with interview and appeals preparation. These Advocates frequently assist in different forms of legal and non-legal aid, such as hospital escorts, accompanying asylum seekers to interviews, and assistance with crisis intervention of asylum seekers at risk.
Minimum mission duration for all field positions and regions is four (4) weeks, full-time - shorter term missions on exceptional basis for highly experienced asylum law attorneys and experts. Long term volunteers and volunteers fluent in Arabic and Farsi are strongly encouraged to apply and are given preference in application review. This position is unpaid, and volunteers are expected to cover their own costs entirely.
Please note: Successful completion of the mandatory training program is part of the recruitment process and should be scheduled appropriately when planning to volunteer with Advocates Abroad. The training program includes 40 hours of self-study through online training sessions. Final clearance for the field team programs requires passing one quiz and one assessment of regional knowledge and applicable laws. The training program generally takes two weeks to complete.
