Health Project Manager
Develop, lead, monitor and evaluate the assigned health project. This involves effectively managing and reporting on the projects in line with the objectives, time frame and budget with a focus on health system strengthening, training and coordination. Other important aspects of the role include supporting and training primary health care staff to meet international quality standards in health care delivery, encouraging beneficiary participation, liaising with other stakeholders, and anticipating, planning, and contributing to the development of new project proposals and reports.
Medair’s goal in the former Renk County is to reduce morbidity and mortality in vulnerable displaced and host populations through the provision of emergency WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene), healthcare, and nutrition services. To accomplish this, Medair works in Abayok and Wunthou camps for internally displaced persons (IDPs) providing primary healthcare and outpatient nutrition services. In Abayok Medair provides 24 hour skilled delivery in Abayok and Stabilization Centre inpatient nutrition care. Medair is implementing integrated Community Case Management (iCCM) transitioning to Boatma Health Initiatives (BHI) in remote villages within Medair catchment area, where access to healthcare is difficult, and has set up Care Groups through which behavioural change communication messages reach more than 8,000 households.

Key Activity Areas
Health Project Management
- Manage the health project in order to meet the project objectives within budget and time frame and report promptly any operational concerns.
- Provide strong leadership, working to ensure both short and long-term positive impacts and outcomes for the beneficiaries, local health authorities (where applicable) and local health staff.
- Contribute to development and implementation of an appropriate and effective health strategy including proactive planning for responsible exit.
- Continuously monitor and supervise health activities, evaluating progress through outputs and impacts using both quantitative and qualitative data, and involving the health team in analysis and taking appropriate action as needed to ensure continued progress.
- Provide input into the integration of accountability to affected populations in all aspects of the project.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of activities according to applicable timeframes and formats.
- Develop new proposals, linked to assessed needs and gaps and the Medair country strategy, in conjunction with the relevant field managers and the Medair Health Advisor.
- Line-manage the Health Managers of the assigned projects, including day-to-day management, development and training, appraisals, etc.
- Facilitate regular meetings to assist information sharing between project staff, to ensure all staff members are aware of project objectives and current work plans.
- Provide coaching and technical supervision to staff in order to develop ownership and full responsibility for health activities, and programme quality.
- Assess the training needs of health staff and ensure that appropriate training is conducted.
- Manage the health budget for the assigned project and ensure all expenses are according to budget and meet the Medair standards with regard to financial management.
Communication and Coordination
- Develop and maintain appropriate, regular, transparent and supportive communication structures with the assigned health team, Medair in-country and GSO health managers and Medair Health Advisors and other relevant stakeholders with the objective of ensuring good cooperation and partnerships.
- Participate in health coordination meetings, Medair internal trainings, and other working groups or meetings, representing Medair and feeding back to the health staff and field managers.
- Ensure timely procurement of medicine and equipment supplies for delivery of the project.
- Liaise, as necessary, with the health, logistics and finance staff to ensure items are procured, transported, stored, managed and accounted for correctly.
- Promote and use the Medair intranet and other operating procedures, ensuring that all standardised formats are used and guidelines are followed.
- Ensure health projects are implemented in line with donor proposals and requirements and in accordance with Medair, donor, country and international standards i.e. Sphere and HAP standards.

- Clinical degree or diploma (nurse, midwife or doctor), or Public Health degree.
- Strong working knowledge of English (spoken and written).
Experience / Competencies
- 2 years’ post-qualification nursing/medical professional experience.
- At least 1 year management experience in a health context and 1 years in health in developing country.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, in particular Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Experience in training. Good numerical, report writing and administration skills.
- Knowledge of humanitarian principles, Sphere and HAP Standards.
- Ability and willingness to manage project implementation. Able to set clear objectives and to delegate.
