We are looking for a proactive and effective Senior Impact & Learning Adviser to strengthen the generation, capture and use of high quality data to help deliver evidence-based, innovative and impactful programmes for children.

As a Senior Impact & Learning Adviser based in our London office, you will sit within the Business Programmes Hub at Save the Children UK. Working with a range of thematic technical advisers, programme and account managers at the global and national levels, you will be responsible for strengthening global evidence and learning systems across several of our high-profile business partnerships, as well as delivering several high profile evaluations and pieces of research. Most of your work will relate to our partnerships with GlaxoSmithKline, Community Jameel and Unilever which support a range of multi-sectoral programmes focused on health, education and livelihoods across 45+ countries.

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring our flagship programmes have the right systems in place to strategically measure and manage results. You will also commission rigorous impact evaluations, and have the opportunity to personally design and carry-out strategic research. These studies will generate evidence on the effectiveness of our programmes as well as 'what works' when engaging in innovative business partnerships, or adaptively managing programmes. You will ensure that this learning is put into practice, improving the quality of on-going programming and strategically influencing the design of new partnerships. This is an exciting opportunity to design and test new approaches to monitoring, evaluation and learning which respond to the opportunities created by innovative partnerships with business, putting in place best practice systems for turning evidence and learning into action.

You will:

  • Design and implement monitoring, evaluation and learning systems for key transformational partnerships, ensuring learnings translate into improved programme quality and are used to inform strategy.
  • Design and lead high quality quantitative and qualitative research studies to fill key evidence gaps, in collaboration with academic partners.
  • Build the capacity of project staff at the global and national levels to implement high quality monitoring, evaluation and learning systems.
  • Support high quality global meta-analysis and maintain result databases for key partnerships.
  • Commission and manage external impact evaluations or consultants.

· Influence and effectively engaging a wide range of senior stakeholders on complex technical issues.

This role is idea for a person with substantial expertise in evaluation and research within a development context, with background in either health or education (but interest in both), who is interested in leading global research studies, and in creating strategic impact and learning systems which drive forward innovative corporate-NGO partnerships and inform strategy. This person will be comfortable taking initiative and working flexibly, able to comfortably navigate complex relationships across large global organisations. You will additionally have:

  • Practical experience using evidence- based learning to improve project implementation and design, and inform strategy.
  • Practical experience leading evaluation research, using a range of qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Practical experience collecting qualitative and quantitative data in developing countries.
  • High degree of self-motivation, top-notch communication and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, to diplomatically engage with a range of stakeholders on key activities, while still meeting tight deadlines.
  • Practical experience in the fields of international development, health or education, including an understanding of issues surrounding corporate social responsibility and the role of the private sector in development.
