Pact Institute, a nonprofit subsidiary of Pact, Inc., catalyzes this vision through partnerships with corporate, foundation, multilateral and other funders. Half of the Pact Institute portfolio focuses on responsible sourcing through our Mines to Markets (M2M) program. With 9 new corporate partnerships in 2018 alone, private sector partnerships contribute to half of Pact Institute’s annual revenue -- $22 million in FY18. This position reports to the Executive Director, Pact Institute.

Position Purpose:

Pact seeks to recruit Senior Director, Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) within Pact Institute to grow and deepen relationships with corporate entities. Based on Pact’s ability to deeply understand community needs, convene the right stakeholders, and rapidly implement and scale solutions in country, the Senior Director, PSP will advance Pact’s engagement with both companies and communities through a shared value approach – ensuring companies are able to meet their business objectives while also addressing poverty and marginalization. By understanding company strategies, broader business trends, and Pact’s new Corporate Engagement Framework, the Senior Director, PSP will work with colleagues across Pact to identify, market, and sell 1) partnerships and programming that drive our clients’ core business, 2) social enterprise opportunities that fill gaps in the broader business ecosystem, and 3) consulting services that are of interest to both current and prospective clients. The Senior Director, PSP will grow and deepen CSR relationships with existing and new funders.
While a deepening and expanding of the M2M portfolio is anticipated, targeted areas for growth include renewable energy, health, and livelihoods. This position will have responsibility to both enable corporate engagement across the broader organization and to provide leadership and action in identifying and cultivating new relationships. The focus of the Senior Director, PSP will be corporate partners including corporate philanthropy, although opportunity to work with foundations more broadly exists.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead: Provide private sector partnerships leadership, representation, and stewardship within Pact

  • Oversee implementation of Pact’s Corporate Engagement (CE) Framework and drive business value services, social enterprise (in collaboration with Pact Ventures), and consulting services
  • Align and evolve the CE Framework to Pact’s broader transformation efforts
  • Support achievement of Pact Institute Business Plan (2020) goals which include increased partnerships, increased revenue, and launch of Energy for Prosperity (E4P)
  • Develop and own financial scenarios, including annual revenue targets
  • Oversee a departmental budget of or around $500k
  • Supervise an HQ based Corporate Engagement Specialist
  • Work with Integrated Communications on communications and campaigns in support of private sector partnerships
  • Attend events and conferences for the purpose of developing new and supporting existing relationships with private sector professionals in a diverse set of roles
  • Ensure due diligence for prospective partners

Do: Build impactful private sector partnerships that generate revenue

  • Monitor trends and business intelligence across Pact’s sectors, identifying sector-specific and cross-cutting opportunities for partnership
  • Work closely with private sector partners to identify problems/opportunities within their value chains and to co-create solutions to those problems – improving efficiency and profitability for those partners while ensuring social impact
  • Through relationship building and co-creation, market and sell Pact capabilities, particularly in the context of shared value and/or CSR opportunities in the areas of renewable energy, health and livelihoods
  • Actively harvest relationships across Pact countries, within Pact countries, or across Pact sectors, looking beyond core partnerships for other areas of collaboration
  • Manage relationships with existing partners as well as prospects, managing touchpoints and identifying and executing regular opportunities to engage with partners and prospects, particularly in the health and livelihoods sectors
  • Support the M2M and E4P teams as key account managers for their portfolios

Enable: Mobilize the organization to find, secure, and expand private sector partnerships

  • Actively support country, regional, and technical strategy development and implementation, ensuring identification of priority corporate funders and corresponding engagement plans.
  • Provide tools and resources to technical and country teams to understand relevant landscapes, identify prospects and develop engagement plans, and to present Pact’s capabilities
  • Provide guidance and matrixed supervision to regional business development hires, particularly on client engagement, concepts, and proposals
  • Use Salesforce to record contact points and key partner/prospect contact information and ensure sharing of information across Pact
  • Develop and manage a cost-share strategy for work with USAID and other funders
  • Actively engage internal Pact stakeholders that support continued mindset and behavior shifts across the organization

Basic Requirements:

  • BA and 15 years of experience in business development, corporate social responsibility, international development, and/or partnership building
  • Experience conceptualizing, selling, and securing shared value partnerships and/or responsible sourcing
  • Demonstrated success in:

    • Developing new partnerships
    • Revenue generation
    • Client relationship management
  • Knowledge of company strategies; able to understand and translate business intelligence

  • Core attributes: curious, driven, patient, positive, collaborative

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree
  • Experience working with non-US, non-European companies, particularly Chinese companies
  • Well networked with CSR professionals, business opportunity professionals within corporations, and/or foundations (untied to corporations)
  • Experience with value chain partnerships/shared value
  • Well networked in one or more impact area: health, livelihoods, or energy
