    HI has been present in Sierra Leone since 1996. Various projects have been implemented since, in health, rehabilitation, social inclusion, rights promotion, etc. but since the end of the Ebola crisis, mainly education projects are implemented – currently 3 education projects are taking place with funding secured until 2021 for the longest. A rehab project and an emergency project (rehab, protection, PSS) following the landslide and the floods of August 2017 in Sierra Leone were implemented in 2017. A new mental health project has started in 2018 in Sierra Leone.

    A new Program Operational Strategy has been validated for the period 2018 -2020 with a will to increase the level of activity (including new projects in Liberia with a re-opening of Monrovia office as soon as projects are funded) through projects in various topics such as physical rehabilitation, mother and child health, livelihood and sexual and reproductive health.


    Under the responsibility of the Support Services Coordinator (SSC), Finance Supervisor’s main responsibility is to manage the Finance service of programme. The main missions are as follows:

  • To manage the 2018 year-end closure (and semi-annual closure)– accounting and financial - and support the SSC in the development of forecasts

  • To manage the monthly closure process

  • Support the management of internal and donor budgets by PMs and other budget holders

  • Be responsible for the preparation of donor reports and cash forecasts prior to their submission to HQ for validation

  • Ensure the integrity of the cash management in the programme

  • To ensure the quality of Partner organization financial reports and supporting documentation, providing training and support wherever needed

  • In close liaison with the SSC, work to increase the autonomy and capacities of the three Freetown-based finance staff


  • You hold a degree in Finance or Accountancy

  • You have 2 years of experience in finance and accounts management within INGO A previous experience with HI is a strong asset

  • User knowledge of Navision is an asset

  • Fluent English ; French is an advantage

  • Previous experience in team management and capacity-building

  • Dynamic and solution oriented person


The overall situation in Sierra Leone is calm, however there are some factors that should be considered from a security perspective. The office and the expatriates houses/apartments are comfortable. The power supply is erratic but all houses have generators and air conditioning and drinking water is supplied. Freetown is less developed that the main capitals in West Africa and food variety can be limited but most items can be found in supermarkets if you have time to shop around. People are very friendly and there are some lovely local beaches which are relatively easy to access.

  • Salary from 2214 € gross/month regarding the experience of the candidate
