Oxfam in Sierra Leone is seeking to recruit an experienced, dynamic, innovative and committed Business Development Lead to strengthen its fundraising efforts

Who we are

Oxfam in Sierra Leone’s country strategy 2017-2021 will work towards a vision of ‘a just, inclusive and resilient Sierra Leone without poverty in which the people, especially women and youth, demand and acquire equal access to their rights and live a life of dignity’. This vision will be realized through the pursuit of three goals:

The Role

Reporting to the Oxfam International Country Director, you will actively support the Country Director and other country programme staff to grow Oxfam’s income and partnerships at country level to resource our Country programme strategy, through single country, multi-country funding opportunities and consortium partnerships. To achieve the country programme ambitions, the Business Development Lead will be responsible for identifying, developing and implementing resource mobilisation strategies based on sound donor mapping, developing new business strategies to forge strategic partnerships between Oxfam in Sierra Leone and institutional donors. The post holder will be expected to work across the confederation of OI affiliates in achieving the country funding strategy and be the primary link for accessing technical fundraising assistance and support from the confederation’s fundraising architecture. You will work with teams to deliver a consistent standard of high-quality proposal development across varying programme contexts. You will take the lead in managing the funding efforts of the Programme, by ensuring high-quality, accurate and timely reporting. You will work closely with the programme and finance teams to coach, train and support them in matters pertaining to funding and donor contract management. You will maintain positive working relationships with local and international donor agencies and represent Oxfam to the donor community. As a member of the Country Leadership Team, you will also help shape our programme strategies and advocacy efforts in the country.

What we’re looking for

To be successful in this role you will be someone with a strong background in fundraising, and donor intelligence gathering with sound understanding in securing and managing funds from institutional donors and UN agencies. You will bring excellent writing, project cycle management and research skills; but also, you should be a confident donor contract manager. You should have significant funding/fundraising experience with donors like EU, ECHO, OFDA, SIDA, DANIDA and the UN system; A well proven experience in communications and programme development. You are a team player, with an optimistic outlook and real belief in what we're trying to achieve here at Oxfam. You should be skilled in networking and influencing others, and effective in representing Oxfam to the donor community. You are sensitive to cultural differences and able to travel on short visits at short notice.
