Scope of Work

  • Goal and Objective: Under the supervision of the Chief of Communication the consultant will assist and support the section with all graphic design including layout and design assignments.
  • Provide details/reference to AWP areas covered: This covers aspects of the annual work plans where different presentations need to be done as well as publications and pamphlets.
  • Activities and Tasks:
  • - Deliver creative and innovative ideas for print, web and interactive presentations. (20%)

    - Support and lead the design process of reports and presentations for printing, electronic distribution and live delivery (10%)

    - Maintain templates (Word, PowerPoint etc) and give technical support for the use of them (10%)

    - Deliver creative graphic and technical solutions for use of new media (10%)

    - Layout and design of power-point presentations as needed (20%)

    - Improve and edit art‐works, photos, charts and other graphic elements; Assist in establishing and be responsible for maintaining a photo archive (20%)

    - Assist and support the management of project communication between UNICEF and service providers. (10%)

  • Work relationships: the consultant will report to the Chief of Communication and interact with other colleagues in the section.
  • Outputs/Deliverables:
  • Assist with social media designs on a daily basis. Working on design of uploads for social media sites.
  • Assist with all presentations for sections
  • Design invitation for events with images
  • Input into proposals and pitch presentations for sections
  • Design save the dates for distribution
  • Input into the development of donor communication materials.
  • A table may be used to summarize the tasks, deliverables, specific timeline and milestones (Sample below). Please state when and whether or not timeframes are negotiable - and if so under what circumstances

    Payment Schedule

    The consultant will be paid on delivery of a monthly report which will detail all deadlines and timelines for tasks and activities as outlined in the terms of reference.

    Desired competencies, technical background and experience

  • A first university degree/diploma, preferably in graphic and design
  • Have in-design experience as well as PPT layout design experience, WordPress and web design
  • Have working knowledge of digital media and social media marketing
  • Ability to design and deliver digital and print campaigns effectively to deadline.
  • Excellent writing skills, including a demonstrated ability to draft clear and concise material.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and to ensure high-quality deliverables;
  • Demonstrated capacity to carry out the assignment within allocated timeframe.
  • Administrative issues

    Availability of resources, focal points/contacts and how they will be accessible; Location and schedule for progress meetings throughout the contract duration (if required).

    Conditions

    The consultant will use his/her own computer with all his/own layout and design software.

    The consultant will work flexibly with the South Africa office.

    As per UNICEF DFAM policy, payment is made against approved deliverables. No advance payment is allowed unless in exceptional circumstances against bank guarantee, subject to a maximum of 30 per cent of the total contract value in cases where advance purchases, for example for supplies or travel, may be necessary.

    The candidate selected will be governed by and subject to UNICEF's General Terms and Conditions for individual contracts.
