Above-average October-December short rains are forecast, likely resulting in a second consecutive season of flooding in the Horn of Africa, with up to a million people affected.
More than 127,000 Kenyan children who have been displaced by flooding following heavy rains in recent weeks may be in need of psychosocial support, World Vision is warning.

The funding will help cover basic needs such as emergency shelter, food and nutrition, drinking water and repair of water facilities, emergency health care and epidemics prevention.

In addition to ensuring effective and efficient response to outbreaks, the new initiative includes an immediate evaluation of emergencies to capture areas of strength and improvement.
Several factors stopped the disease from spreading, including a prompt response, immediate diagnosis and treatment, a coordinated approach and community involvement.
Half of the country's 26 provinces are affected by armed violence, ethnic conflict, diseases and natural disasters, all this within a volatile regional context and amid historically low levels of funding.

Attacks by Christian militias in CAR's border town of Bangassou have driven about 2,750 people into Bas-Uele, raising the risk that the Ebola outbreak could spread across the border, a WHO representative said.
Twenty cases of Ebola have been reported in the DRC's Bas Uele Province. Two have been confirmed by laboratory tests and three people have died so far, the WHO says.
