The new edition of the Crop Prospects and Food Situation report highlights 39 countries in need of external food assistance. Global agricultural prospects are improving but lean seasons loom in near future.
Nigeria, Chad and Niger account for three-quarters of the population facing severe food insecurity, in particular communities in north-western Chad, where those facing crisis levels of food insecurity has more than doubled.
As of 11 March, some 14,800 people
affected by Typhoon Winston in Fiji remain in 476 evacuation centres. Over 80 government agencies, humanitarian
organizations and multinational forces continue to respond.
