There have been important advances in the past decade, with 86% of children globally receiving basic vaccinations. But progress has recently stagnated and 19.4 million children under one are still excluded.
Preliminary results of the Regional Vulnerability Assessment and Analysis in June 2016 indicate that 39.7 million people will be acutely food insecure in the SADC region at the peak of the lean season in January to March 2017.
An estimated 40 million people are facing food insecurity, including some 23 million needing urgent assistance. The Regional Action Plan, with a requirement of $1.2 billion, is only 17 per cent funded to date.
